More than any other scientist, Wernher von Braun was responsible for putting America on the moon. Before he died, he gave this testimony concerning life after death. “I think science has a real surprise for the skeptics. Nothing in nature, not even the tiniest particle can disappear without a trace. Nature does not know extinction. All it knows is transformation. Everything science has taught me, and continues to teach me, strengthens my belief in the continuity of our spiritual existence after death.” This, of course, is precisely what Jesus taught us in so many ways. For example, He tells us “What my Father wants is that all who see the Son and believe in Him should have eternal life” (John 6:40). Even more importantly, Jesus shows us this reality in His Resurrection. As St. Paul says, death is our final enemy, but death itself has been destroyed in the rising of the Lord to new life. And that victory He promises to share with us if we let Him by believing Him and following His way. We have a future that no one can take from us if we are faithful to the Lord. The great British theologian C.S. Lewis expresses it this way. “If I find in myself a desire that no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.”
